2011: The Cranberries to headline Õllesummer 2011 festival

The Cranberries, who are making one of the most awaited comeback’s on today’s rock music scene, will headline Õllesummer 2011. One of the most popular bands of the 1990s has returned to the world stage after a break of eight years. The Cranberries will play at the festival on Friday, 8 July.

The Cranberries, who recently returned to the studio, won over the hearts of many Estonian people with their hits Zombie, Linger, Dreams, Ode To My Family, When You’re Gone and many other top pop and rock songs from 1990s. The band's eagerly awaited new album will be released this year and the band says the first single from the new album should come out in summer.

“Getting the Cranberries to perform at Õllesummer is a real feat for us, because their comeback means they’re in high demand all over the world,” said the festival’s chief organiser Marje Hansar.

The amazing career of the Cranberries started in the small Irish town of Limerick in 1989, when the founders of the band, brothers Noel and Mike Hogan, found their singer, Dolores O’Riordan, through a newspaper ad. She wrote the original version of the song Linger, which three years later became one of the most successful and memorable singles in the band's career. Linger and the band’s second major future hit Dreams were the highlights of the band’s first demo recording, only 300 copies of which were released. The demo caught the eye of producers, who paved the way for the band's first album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?

The success of the band’s second album, No Need To Argue, was secured by the Cranberries’ breakthrough hit Zombie and the melodic hit ballad Ode To My Family. This album was the jackpot for The Cranberries – they conquered both the European and North American music markets.

The band’s members were engaged in various musical projects from 2003-2009.

The Cranberries, who have sold 15 million albums in the US alone and had four albums in the Billboard Top 20 albums, announced their comeback last year.

Õllesummer 2011 will be held in the Tallinn Song Festival Ground from 6 to 9 July. Tickets are available at all Piletilevi ticket offices and Statoil service stations around Estonia. A one-day pass costs €10 and a full festival pass costs €25.
